In spring, we eat frosted cupcakes topped with sprinkles. During fall, we eat pumpkin pie or pecan pie–just pie in general. Winter is for hot chocolate with marshmallows, and summer always has ice-cold lemonade. But what season does ice cream belong to?
Unlike most treats, ice cream fits into all seasons. Whether it’s winter, summer, spring, or autumn, ice cream remains the best treat of all. With an unlimited amount of flavors, ice cream isn’t just for the hot temperatures, but for the cool ones too.
The dropping temperatures are the perfect time to enjoy your ice cream, with new flavors like peppermint, pumpkin spice, and more. This gives avid ice-cream lovers a chance to experiment with better, and season-related flavors. Ice cream shops are also able to get creative with new flavors to make.
When I went to Meadowlark Dairy in Pleasanton, I made sure to try their new pumpkin spice ice cream, which had hints of cinnamon throughout. The cinnamon gave the ice cream a balance between being savory and sweet. It reflected the fall leaves that fell from the trees, making it the perfect ice cream to eat during autumn. This flavor is a limited treat as it is only available in the colder seasons such as fall and winter.
The typical association of ice cream with warmer weather contrasts with this, as pumpkin spice is only available in the autumn and winter seasons. It is definitely one to try out while it is still available.
Eating ice cream in the winter can also help keep your hands clean. Due to the chilly air, your ice cream won’t melt as quickly as it would in the summer, giving you more time to savor your delicious treat. As a slow ice cream eater myself, I find it annoying when my ice cream drips all over my hand, causing me to have to continuously wipe off the excess ice cream with tissues because nobody wants sticky hands. In winter, I am able to stray away from that problem as my ice cream stays intact.
Winter has always been a season of stress due to finals and the end of the semester, but ice cream can help solve that. As a sweet treat, ice cream has the ability to transfer your thoughts from your upcoming finals to the sweet, savory delights in front of you.
A study by John Hopkins proves that people who ate high-calorie food, such as sweet treats like ice cream, were more distracted when doing complicated tasks like studying for a test. When eating your ice cream, all you will be able to focus on is how the ice cream tastes, rather than your upcoming tests.
Ice cream places like Meadowlark, Salt & Straw, and Kwality Ice Cream are also good places for socializing. At these businesses, teens can boost connections with their peers. With the retro yet cozy atmosphere inside an ice cream place, it’s suitable for hangouts with friends.
While devouring your ice cream, you can catch up on gossip with your peers in a place where you can sit comfortably and enjoy the safety of knowing that you won’t be overheard, as most people are too busy eating their own tasty treat. Nothing beats a good ice cream hangout.
Now, it is time for you to head to your favorite ice cream store and pick one of their seasonal flavors before it is too late!
