A new student-run club aims to introduce DVHS students to the world of motor sports. The DVHS Motorsport Club was founded by senior Adam Lin, who has competed at multiple racing competitions himself.
“I started this club mainly to spread the art of motor sport to more people here at DVHS, but more importantly, to create a community of racers and enthusiasts who are passionate about the sport and are looking for others to connect with,” Lin explained. “Through this club, members can share their knowledge, discuss techniques, and make friendships that go beyond the track. My goal is to create a supportive environment where everyone, from beginners to seasoned racers, can grow and fuel their passion together.”
The DVHS Motorsport Club emphasizes hands-on practice. Rather than purely focusing on the theoretical background, the club offers students opportunities to directly practice the sport. Through activities like go-kart racing at K1 Speed, students can apply what they’ve learned in discussions about racing techniques and strategy.
“It’s not just about learning the theory,” said Lin, “we have opportunities to actually get behind the wheel. Whether it’s karting or learning more about the mechanical side of motor sports, our members get real-world experience.”
Beyond karting, the club has also partnered with East Bay Driving School, which provides an annual seminar for students covering driving techniques, safety and car maintenance. The seminar also includes a Q&A session where students can talk directly to professionals in the field.
The club arranges events that are about community engagement related to racing. At weekly meetings, members engage in a variety of activities, from discussing racing techniques to interactive games. The club also organizes league races hosted by K1 Grand Prix, where members can apply their skills and compete for rewards.
“Every time we race, it’s not just about winning,” said Lin. “It’s about pushing each other to improve, learning from our mistakes and building those bonds. Whether you finish first or last, everyone celebrates together.”
Lin emphasized that the DVHS Motorsport Club is open to all students, regardless of their experience with racing.
“Everyone can participate in motor sports—you don’t have to be Lewis Hamilton [Winner of 7 F1 World Drivers Championships] to enjoy cars and racing,” he said. “At our club, we connect people from many different backgrounds and create a safe space for members to learn more about and be a part of the automotive world.”
The DVHS Motorsport Club has already garnered interest among students, leading Lin to plan for the club’s future.
“We want to keep expanding,” he said. “There are opportunities for more races, guest speakers and maybe even trips to local racing events. The more we can offer, the more we can build on this community and create an environment where students can continue to grow their skills.”
