“My actions now make me believe that there is hope for the world, that good exists and change can happen.”

Aidan Mo: “I started advocating for climate change after the Camp Fire last year. I started advocating because I became angry that our home is burning down and politicians are doing nothing to aid it. My influential figures are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Greta Thunberg, who are strong progressive voices for the climate. Some people do not support me… [such as the] several climate deniers at DV who try to tell me that my activism is pointless, but they themselves have done nothing to help. Nevertheless, I continue to persist. I joined the Sunrise Movement in May 2019 because I wanted to take part in something larger than myself. Sunrise is a youth-led organization that is building a coalition of young people, ages 13-35, to fight for climate justice, the Green New Deal and to demand that fossil fuel executives and corrupt politicians…stop killing our planet and future. I felt very empowered and emotional when I striked because just seeing all those people who were fighting alongside me made me feel like there is hope. My actions now make me believe that there is hope for the world, that good exists and change can happen. I would tell my younger self that I have a purpose.”
