Anbereen Ajina

Eighth-grader Anbereen Ajina plays the flute in the Windemere Ranch Middle School band. She has been playing her instrument for four years since she first started in fourth grade.

“I like how the flute sounds because it’s really pretty. Plus, we always get to play the melody like in ‘Despacito’ and ‘Ceremonial Chant,’” Ajina said.

The Area Band festival gave Ajina the opportunity to meet new students in the band program who play the same instrument as her. Like many of the students, this was Ajina’s first time visiting the campus of Dougherty Valley High. She is looking forward to the band opportunities in high school like auditioning for different musical groups and playing for various clubs.

“I’m excited because there’s Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. I want to try out for it in tenth grade,” Ajina said.

Creating and performing music with her peers are what she feels are most rewarding from her experience thus far.

“What I enjoyed from this experience was that I got to do it with my friends,” she said.
