“It’s just always been exciting to get together and make something bigger than ourselves.”
AJ Sohrabi
“I’m playing [Angel], this super unconventional character in RENT, and it’s my first time being on stage since fourth grade, but I’m excited about the effect that my character could have on the broader scale at DVHS. We all come here for academics and work, which is very understandable, but drama is very exciting and loud, which is so different, but nice. I believe that drama can make you feel welcome. Looking out on stage from the audience and seeing yourself reflected in a character can make you feel more at home, especially a very confident character like mine. You can leave with the ‘If they can do it, then why can’t I?’ feeling. It’s definitely helped me boost my self-esteem, portraying myself as this unapologetically confident person. I’m really excited for people to see what we put together, we’ve been working so hard, and it’s going to be really nice to get feedback. What I’m most excited by is our ability to make people happy and have a good time watching the show, and taking into account their perception of this amazing story.”
