“I hope to continue playing music that friends and relatives are able to sing and dance to”

Marcos Perez: Piano has been in my life since I was 6 years old, using youtube videos and books to teach myself the craft. We happened to have a piano in my house and it just made sense that I would pick it up. Without a teacher, I was able to play whenever I pleased, allowing me to enjoy the instrument as I never felt forced to play it. I could play songs of my choosing and learned a wide variety of songs that I loved from movies, tv shows, and classical composers.
My favorite part about playing piano is how I am able to play music with my friends and perform songs that we all love. The chemistry while improvising with your friends is tremendously apparent and it is able to make music that much more enjoyable. I’m also able to use piano as a temporary break from reality where I forget all else and focus solely on my playing. In college, Although I am not majoring in music, I plan to keep on playing piano and possibly join a jazz ensemble of somesort. This will allow me to further develop my skills and I hope to continue playing music that friends and relatives are able to sing and dance to, bringing people together through the sound of music.
