“I want to enjoy whatever I do.”
Ojal Dhar: I actually grew up in India for 11 years, so that is where I started and I started track when I was in 5th grade. It was one of the few sports my school in India supported, along with swimming and soccer. So it was one of my few options for sports, and it just kind of took off from there. Then at the beginning of 2018, my family and I moved to California, and the idea of having an official season, and the luxury of having track about five minutes away from your house was just so perfect. So I started again in 8th grade, I just love the sport, it’s so flexible like the number of events I want to do and what event I want to do. At this point I’ve been doing it for so long it’s a part of my lifestyle. Track is one of the only consistent things I have during quarantine, especially with school being online, it’s like my excuse for going outside. Like last year, it was put to a full stop, but the season started again this year. I even got the chance to try triple jump this year, and I ended up breaking the school record. It’s one of the things that make me so happy, also being with my teammates who are now like family to me. I feel lucky to get to spend time with people I love and I do sports I genuinely enjoy.”
