“I think the most interesting thing about my music taste is that it’s so diverse!”
Bella Lopez: “My music taste is different from today’s because I listen to music that is no longer recognized as often, such as 80’s music or classical. The 80’s just seem like such a cool, retro, vintage vibe. Many of the teens in the 80’s are carefree, optimistic, and listened to the best music. I started getting into 80’s music 2 years ago. I heard “You Make My Dreams” by Daryl Hall and John Oates and I was completely obsessed. I wouldn’t stop listening to it so my dad had to show me some others, conveniently through real vinyl. I would say the thing that stuck out to me most about older music was how many different instruments they used, and how they were very raw, with no autotune. This made me feel like they were truly talented without the use of autotune or cutting audio!”
“My all-time favorite band is The Cure! The reason I love the Cure so much is how you can never predict any song they make. Different genres are incorporated into each song and it makes me so excited to find out what’s going to happen. I also adore Phoebe Bridgers. She is absolutely incredible, not only are her songs one of a kind, but her lyrics are so pure and she really tells her stories through her music. My favorite song would be Just like Heaven by them. The lyrics “Dancing in the deepest oceans. Twisting in the water. You’re just like a dream. Just like a dream” are so meaningful. This is my absolute favorite song quote ever. I love this quote because Robert Smith, The Cure lead singer, put so much effort into his lyrics. The lyrics teach me how much one can care and cherish someone they truly love, but when they leave the pain can really get to you.”
“My second favorite one is Moon Song by Phoebe Bridgers. This song is possibly the saddest song I’ve ever heard. It’s extremely emotional and makes me think of situations that could have been possible with someone you care deeply about. But, it couldn’t happen because something is holding you back. My favorite album of all time is “The Top” by The Cure. It’s so incredible, each song is so different from the last and it was very unusual to listen to. It made me realize how you don’t need to enjoy just one genre of music because The Cure gives you everything.”
“I honestly dislike any type of pop, R&B or heavy metal songs. Some genres I do like are classic rock, indie/folklore, classical, and rap. What inspired me to like this type of music was my brother. He has always been so confident in not being bothered about his music taste and I wanted to feel good about what I listened to, not the crowd.”
