“ It feels nice to have it all come together, it makes me feel like I’m on the right track in life and I’m doing the right thing”

Ms. Sakkis: “In my 20s I struggled with food and body issues. I found a way to let go of the unhealthy eating and that included getting rid of drinking alcohol. That led to me wanting to change careers, that led to me wanting to do something more meaningful.

I didn’t know that I wanted to be a high school teacher until I was about 30 years old and I was doing another career as an event planner in my 20s. I knew that cleaning up my life, getting healthy, that kind of allowed my brain to think like ‘Wow, I’m living so healthy, like what happened in the world before I got here’.

Living a disciplined lifestyle around food and I put in my body really opened up my heart in a different kind of way. I think it opened up my heart, and it opened up my mind, and I’m able to focus.

I personally am more able to be more focused on other people. I only have today, like making the most of today and making the right decisions today. It all kind of came together like this is the decision, this should be my next step in life, it should be becoming a high school teacher. Now, I met this amazing high school. It feels nice to have it all come together, it makes me feel like I’m on the right track in life and I’m doing the right thing.”
