“I am never bored with music, and I also am never trapped by one specific thing.”

Maya Krishnan: “I play five instruments and perform in multiple genres. Sometimes I get scared when I go to a new music class or meet another musician, cause I always for some reason dread telling people about all of the different realms I belong to as a musician. To other people, I’ve always felt like my many different passions might come off as bragging or pretentious. And to be honest, I very accurately fit the description of “jack of many trades, master of none”.  But to me, it doesn’t matter if I’m not good at soloing on guitar if I’m unable to belt high notes or the fact that sometimes I change my style.  I’ve always been told that if I’m not good enough at one thing, then no one will ever remember me or my music, because I am just mediocre. But I love being the wearer of many hats because it means I am never bored with music, and I also am never trapped by one specific thing. Not to say that a person with one main instrument is trapped – but if there’s one thing I’ve learned from music it’s to always embrace the new things because in the end, people will remember you if you’re interesting and different.”
