Dougherty Valley’s women’s varsity golf team repeated their success as DFAL league champions this season.

After winning their first four league matches, DV golfers continued their winning streak by dominating Acalanes two days in a row with scores of 205 and 215.

With one eagle and three birdies, Yoonhee Kim led the team to another victory at Las Lomas’ home course, shooting an impressive score of 33, three strokes under par for the round. With Kim’s leading score, the team shot a collective score of 214, bumping up DV’s record to 7–0.

The varsity golfers were not daunted by their second match against Alhambra. The team’s low score of 199 swept Alhambra’s 287 at their home course. Led by Kim and Janica Ha’s 37, Tiffany Cha followed with a 39, Reini Lin with a 40, Siobhan Sher with a 46 and Jessica Meng with a 54 in her first match.

DV’s women’s varsity golfers remained undefeated in their first match against Dublin, winning 252–253. In a thrilling match, Dougherty proved victorious with a one stroke lead on Dublin. Led by Amy Xue and Cha’s 40, Lin followed with a 41, Ha with a 42, Sher with a 44 and Kim with a 45.

In the second match against Dublin, the DV players lost by five strokes, knocking down their undefeated record. Despite Kim’s impressive score of 32 — 4 under par —  it was not enough to clinch the victory. In a 201–206 loss, Ha and Cha followed Kim’s 32 with 43s, and Lin and Sher with 44s.

In their last match of the season, the DV girls won 201–239 against Miramonte, entering the league tournament with an 11–1 record.

With a final league record of 11 wins and 1 loss, the team was tied with Dublin High school for first in the league. At the league tournament on October 20, the DV girls snagged the top spot with a team score of 383 for 18 holes.

Contributing to this low score were Kim, Cha and Ha with 76s, Lin with a 77, Xue with a 78 and Sher. Shooting a staggering 14 strokes under the previous season’s winning league score, every golfer shared in the pride of being part of the team effort.

Head coach Mike Cowan commented, “Every team member shares in this accomplishment for the hard work all of the girls have put into each practice, tournament and match that we have participated [in] this season.”
